Thousands of Rank-and-File Members Talking to Union Members About Good Jobs and Quality, Affordable Health Care
HARRISBURG, Pa., June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- One of the largest mobilizations of working Americans in history continues Saturday, June 19, 2004 and Saturday, June 26, 2004. Thousands of union volunteers continue their canvassing of neighborhoods in 16 states, including Pennsylvania, talking to union members about the issues of good jobs and quality, affordable health care in the 2004 elections.
Since last Saturday, June 12th, union volunteers visited tens of thousands of union households talking to union members and distributing literature in every region of Pennsylvania. This Saturday and the following Saturday, June 26, 2004 union volunteers will continue their neighborhood walks reaching even more union households (see following schedule). Their goal is to cover over 455,000 members of union families. They will be passing out literature which reads "Good Jobs and Affordable Health Care: Who's Fighting for Working Families?" and which lays out specific positions of Senator John Kerry and President George Bush on these issues.
John Sweeney, President of the 13 million member AFL-CIO, will be talking to union members and distributing literature in the Pittsburgh area this Saturday.
The walks are part of the AFL-CIO's continuing outreach program to inform and mobilize America's working families around issues central to their lives and future in the 2004 election.
Note: There will be good visual opportunities for both video and still photographers. Union volunteers and staff will be available for interviews.
