MASSACHUSETTS --
UBC members along with Union electricians and plumbers working at Harvard and represented by the Maintenance Trade Council (MTC) have been working without a contract since Dec. 8, 2003.
On May 24, a majority of the MTC's voting membership turned down the University's latest contract proposal and voted for a strike authorization.
An electrician who asked to remain anonymous, said that the 1.5-percent first-year wage increase being offered by the University is too low in light of the eight-figure salaries paid to Harvard's top endowment managers.
Harvard has to around June 23 to redraw its terms before MTC members terminate their existing contracts and announce a strike.
