Fire Destroys Former IBEW Local HQ in Wilmington

SEPTEMBER 28, 2005 -- Fire investigators think they know what started a fire at the former IBEW headquarters in Wilmington.

At the height of rush hour Tuesday, traffic was backed up at N. 23rd Street and Blue Clay Road as firefighters worked to put out that fire.

Investigators believe a spark from a lawnmower started the fire. Someone was mowing the grass around the building just before it caught fire.

The roof of the building eventually collapsed. No one was inside at the time. The building was actually in the process of being torn down.

Traffic was detoured around the intersection of N. 23rd and Blue Clay until firefighters could control the fire.
