Local 98, Philadelphia member appointed to New Jersey/Pennsylvania Regional Transportation Board

PA Governor Rendell Appoints Dougherty to Delaware River Port Authority of PA and New Jersey

HARRISBURG, Pa., June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- PA Governor Edward G. Rendell today announced his appointment of John J. Dougherty to the Delaware River Port Authority of Pennsylvania and New Jersey (DRPA).

Governor Rendell, DRPA's chairman, appointed Dougherty to a five-year term. DRPA is a regional transportation and economic development agency that serves southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey. The Authority owns and operates the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry and Betsy Ross bridges.

Dougherty is business manager for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local Union 98 and chairman of the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Philadelphia. He also serves as vice president of Philadelphia Mechanical Trades Council, Philadelphia Building and Construction Trades Council and Philadelphia Council of the AFL-CIO.

"John Dougherty brings a lifetime of public service to the Delaware River Port Authority and a strong understanding of its role in the community," Governor Rendell said. "He makes an excellent addition to its membership."

DRPA is self-sustaining and operates without tax support. It is administered by a 16-member Board of Commissioners, eight from each state of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Members are appointed by their respective governors, except the auditor-general and treasurer of Pennsylvania who are ex-officio members. All commissioners serve without compensation.
