IBEW Local 97 (Syracuse NY) extends contract with Niagra Mohawk subsidiary of National Grid

(Buffalo, NY, September 30, 2004) - - Niagara Mohawk has avoided a possible worker strike by extending a contract with 1 of its unions.

A spokesmen for NIMO tells News 4 the current contract with the International Electrical Workers Local 97 was supposed to run out today, but instead it's been extended until October 16th. Negotiations on a new contract are underway.

Local 97 represents about 4,100 workers state-wide.

NIMO provides electric service to approximately 1.5 million customers and natural
gas service to approximately 540,000 customers in upstate New York. They are
based in Syracuse, New York and are an energy distribution subsidiary of National Grid.
